i am old.
yes i am…..older than you, anyway.
so here’s the thing: i have been too chicken all of my life to get my ears pierced.
until now…..
where should i go, girls? claire’s? will i be sitting next to an 8 year old getting it done at the same time? i’m already starting to chicken out just thinking about the needle.

i find it funny that you, a nurse, are timid when it comes to a needle. if you want to be uber-cool you can go to taurian for the piercing, but that might freak you out more…you’ll love wearing dangly earrings.

the first time i got my ears pierced, i was 10 years old and my dad did it for me with a needle and a potato. don’t feel too bad about your phobia… sophie has been to claire’s at least three times and hasn’t gotten her ears pierced yet. abbie got hers done at claire’s on one of those visits and it seemed just fine, and she’s happy with them. i think it would be good if you went when the store isn’t too crowded though.

anywhere is fine, i’ve had it done at all kinds of places. i would splurge a little and go somewhere a little cooler and specializes in piercing. you’ll get better service and the piercings are more likely to be even! haha.

I got mine done at Claires (Northwest mall) when I was 42 – four years ago. I got my little brother and Dad to come, ’cause I was there for him when he got his septum pierced. It was a HOLE-Y event – ha! I didn’t even feel it, but I was glad to have family nearby. The machine even got caught on the backing of the right earring, but never fear – the lady was patient and loosened it, and I was out of there – with Austrian crystal studs adorning my once virgin earlobes…so…if you wanna have a ceremony, I’ll come with. π

am i too late? i say claire’s. I was pierced later in life as well. Well, somewhat later. Later than anyone I knew. I was 19 and in college. My dad always said “If your gonna pierce your ears ya might as well pierce your nose too.” That happened at 27. So in several years you could have a nosering. It’s a slippery slope…..

No, no, no!!!!! Don’t go to Claire’s. The people who use the guns to get your ears pierced are not professionals. They don’t have The gun itself is a nasty thing, and dangerous.”A piercing gun, traditionally used by mall stores for piercing ears, is typically inappropriate for piercing of any kind. Almost all medical professionals agree that piercing guns cannot be adequately sterilized (an alcohol wipe is NOT sterilization); this means that they are capable of passing hepatitis and other diseases. In addition, experience has taught the industry that:* Ear piercing studs are dull and tear through the body, causing unnecessary pain, healing duration, and other possible complications.* Ear piercing guns are inaccurate and not designed for piercing most body parts, resulting in improper piercing placement.* Ear piercing studs are the wrong size and too short for most piercings, their diameter is commonly 16ga or 18ga : that’s too small for any piercings, and might cause migration.Any ‘piercer’ using a piercing gun should be avoided.”I know it sounds like the exact reverse, but you really need to go to a professional place to get pierced–I reccomend Sacred Heart at Westheimer and Taft: certified by the Texas Department of Health, been around for more than ten years, sponsors an art car every year in the Art Car Parade!

Oops, meant to say “They don’t have the training that professional piercers do”.
